Bloom Presbyterian Cemetery Chicago Heights, Illinois
Our project of compiling a database of all interments in Bloom Presbyterian Cemetery is finished and available for download!
In 2013 we were graciously given the plot maps to the cemetery by Bill Krebs the former caretaker and a member of First Presbyterian Church in Chicago heights. Bill passed away in 2014 and is now interred in the cemetery. R.I.P. Bill, this project is dedicated to you.
Bloom Presbyterian Cemetery located at 21st Street and Chicago Road was established in 1843 by what was then known as The Reformed Presbyterian Church of Thorn Grove.
We took upon ourselves to have the plot maps digitized for computer use and compiled a database of all interments listed alphabetically with plot number through December of 2014. We photographed every monument in the cemetery and filed them by plot number (over 600 photos).
We donated the plot maps and our database after we finished to the Chicago Heights Public Library. They are now available for viewing in full size during normal library hours.
Notes about using our database, please read:
Bloom Presbyterian Cemetery is technically two cemeteries within it's iron gates. The first and older part of the cemetery is Bloom Presbyterian it's gates face Chicago Road and has it's own plot map. The second part of the cemetery is called Resthaven. The Resthaven section was land donated by George McEldowney in 1930. Resthaven's gate faces 21st Street and has a separate plot map, though both sections are within the iron gates and not divided once you enter.
We encountered a problem during our transcribing when we discovered both sections had overlapping numbers. We solved this problem when listing plot numbers to the Resthaven section by adding an "R" to the plot number.
The plot map only indicates last names with a first initial and burial date. We completed the missing dates and names through our research and photo's of the monuments. We need your help to make our database complete. If you have any information please fill out our form below or email us directly to [email protected] . When sending us further information or corrections it is very important to name the source of your information and send any of your documentation when possible.
All files are in Adobe PDF format and are in three files. We have the database itself along with the plot maps for both sections.
